Born in Moscow, Vladilen Vierny grew up in Belgium. He studied film directing at La fémis in Paris. His graduation film, Exile, was shown at the Cinéfondation Cannes Film Festival in 2013. His short films were selected at San Sebastian, Angers, Clermont-Ferrand, Visions du réel, Oberhausen, Munich, Brussels and about 50 international film festivals. He was part of the Berlinale Talents and the Locarno Filmmakers Academy. He worked as Sergey Loznitsa’s assistant (A Gentle Creature, Donbass) and archive researcher (The Trial, State Funeral). Since 2019, Vladilen has taught film directing at the Moscow School of New Cinema. His last short film, On the March, was selected at Clermont-Ferrand 2021 and broadcasted on ARTE. Based in France, Vladilen Vierny is currently writing his first feature film.
